President

For the Muslim Student Association to be successful the President must act as a visionary leader but at the same time be a direct link to the community. The President is responsible for the direction of the Muslim Student Association's goals on campus as well as in the Muslim community off-campus. He/she coordinates and oversees the organizing for all MSA programs and services, while also serving as a spokesperson for Muslim's concerns to the campus-wide community. In conjunction with the External Affairs Director, the President works to nurture working relationships with USAC, the CRC, the SIAC, the CPO, the UCLA administration and to develop strong relationships with other student organizations in order to seek co-programming amongst diverse communities. In addition, the President serves as a delegate to MSA West, a coalition of MSAs across the west coast of the United States. With the vice president, he/she also serves as the chair of the University Muslim Council, a collective of all the Muslim groups on campus including MSA's SIAC Project MAPS, UMMA Volunteer Project, Incarcerated Youth Tutorial Project, Al-Talib newsmagazine, Academic Mentorship Program and Muslim Union. The President must always make sure these groups are staying accountable to the Muslims on campus as well as in the community. The President is responsible for facilitating and guiding board meetings and general body meetings, as well as making sure the everyday affairs of MSA run smoothly.  Lastly, as the leader of the MSA he/she should be someone that motivates the community to strive for good work and encourages the overall growth of the community.


Vice President
The Vice President, in the absence of the President, assumes all responsibilities of the President. In the presence of the President, the Vice President works to assist the president in the coordination of programs and the projects. The Vice President works closely on internal affairs of the organization, making sure boardmembers stay on task after every board meeting and that they take care of their responsibilities. The Vice President, along with the Access Coordinator and President, acts as a connection to the MSA projects. Many responsibilities of the vice president are administrative in nature and can therefore be very time consuming. He/She also coordinates the election process for the MSAboard and sits on the hiring committee for MSA's SIAC project, MAPS.

External Vice President

The External Vice President focuses on establishing working relationships with other organizations on campus to work on common issues and problems affecting our communities. He/she also acts as a link to USAC officers to make sure that MSA's concerns are being heard. He or she is responsible for attending any coalition meetings, then reports back to the President and the general body. He/she takes the initiative to recruit and outreach within the MSA to encourage people to get involved with these coalitions. He/she works with the President to seek joint programming with other campus groups to understand each others' struggles and work with each other on common problems. Although this position has more meetings than any other, this position is key to MSA's commitment to working within the campus community to connect Muslims to other organizations and give members the opportunity to work with community-based coalitions.


Programming Director

The Programming Director is responsible for the coordination, execution and implementation of most MSAevents and programs. With the direct input of members and the board, the Programming Director determines the content of each program, including speakers and content of speeches, as well as making sure that he/she coordinates with the Outreach Director in publicizing programs and events. The Programming Director chairs all programming committees for all the major events the MSA sponsors. His/her responsibilities include securing facilities, such as booking rooms, and all logistical aspects of programming.

Sisters and Brothers Activites Coordiator

To maintain the level of brotherhood and sisterhood needed to keep the sense of community at a level that lies in accordance with MSA's goals and objectives, there are two Activities Directors on the board. They are a key communication link between the community and the board members, bringing the ideas and concerns of the general body to the board. Their fundamental responsibilities include recruiting new people to the MSA, and welcoming them as a vital part of the community through various while maintaining the tight-knit family atmosphere the MSA aims to create.  Also to foster the Eman(faith) and further strength the community, the coordnators are responsible for organizing the brothers and sisters halaqas.  They, along with the Programming Director, coordinate recruitment events at the beginning of the year, plan our Annual Welcoming and End of the Year Banquets, as well as other banquets that are held throughout the year.

Communications Director

The Communications Director is responsible for maintaining communication amongst MSA board, general body and the broader Muslim community. This includes sending out the weekly MSA emails (Week in Preview and Jumu'ah Announcements) and reminding project directors and board members to send in blurbs for WIP and Jumu'ah Announcements, taking minutes at board meetings. The Communications Director is responsible for regularly checking the MSA email account(s) and answering them or forwarding them to the appropriate person. He/She also keeps the official record of the MSA membership list, adding to it and purging it as necessary as well as recording meeting/program attendance.


Outreach Coordinator

The Outreach Director is responsible for recruiting new members to the orgainization and maintaining a strong and active general body. He or she is also responsible for publicizing all of MSA's events to the campus and community; this may include events that the MSA held jointly with other organizations as well as MSA project events. The tasks include designing and distributing flyers when event dates approach, placing ads in the Daily Bruin and other student newsmagazines, as well as making sure that our websites advertises the MSA events. The Outreach Director is also in charge of online advertisements on myUCLA, bruinwalk.comfacebook.com and so on as well as updating the MSA website on a weekly basis. This position entails also following up on any issues with the website. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to, managing the Dawah Table on Bruinwalk, making and distributing quarter fliers after jumu`ah prior to busy weeks, and collaborating with the Communication Director to advertise for future events.


Finance Director

The Finance Director is responsible for the financial functioning of the MSA, including the base budget proposal as well as proposals for programs throughout the year. In that, the finance director is always aware of all deadlines for all funding committees on campus including the USA Programming Committee, the Campus Programming Committee, the Community Service Mini Fund, Board of Directors and others. In addition, the Finance Director establishes working relations with the USAC Finance Committee Chairperson, the Budget Review Director, ASUCLA, and Student Government Accounting to make sure MSA's programs and projects are funded as exhaustively as possible. The Finance Director is also responsible for keeping a record of all financial transactions for future reference i.e. for reimbursement purposes, etc. 


Access Coordinator

The Access Coordinator is the official liaison to Mentors for Academic and Peer Support (MAPS) and the Student Initiated Access Committee (SIAC). The Access Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that there is regular communication between MSA, MAPS, and SIAC. As a member of the SIAC, the access coordinator is responsible for reviewing funding applications and evaluating the performance of MAPS in addition to the other access projects. The access coordinator must co-chair two subcommittees in the SIAC space. As the direct representative of MSA board to MAPS, the access coordinator must work very closely with the project director for MAPS to ensure that the project is able to complete its work successfully and grow.
